The Small Social’s 2024 Digital Marketing Predictions

Jan 04, 2024

Happy 2024! We are excited to be starting the new year feeling recharged and ready for all the exciting new developments and trends in the digital marketing space. As we settle into the year and start working toward our goals, we thought it would be fun to share our predictions for what could be coming up in digital marketing this year. Things are always changing and we saw some pretty dramatic shifts in 2023. Keep reading for what team SOCO is predicting in 2024.

Ashley, Financial Officer + Account Manager

Last year, Ashley predicted a major shift in the perceptions of reality. She said that throughout 2023, we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between what is real and fake. In a lot of cases, she was right. Now, seeing the advancements in AI, she’s holding onto this prediction with more confidence. As AI improves, there will be more online that is artificially generated and it will become increasingly difficult to tell the difference. She’s thinking only a third of content online will be authentic.

Brooklyn, Digital Marketing Coordinator

Brooklyn is on social media basically all day, every day (aren’t we all?) and her predictions for this year focus on platforms. She is anticipating that Twitter will be sold again and Threads will undergo major improvements to make it a more attractive platform for consumers and businesses alike. Brooklyn is also predicting a rise in user generated content (UGC) to support business growth in a more organic way.

Cat, Director of Digital Marketing

Cat is a digital marketing wizard who knows all the trends, tips and tricks for success. Her 2024 predictions are all about authentic, personalized content. She predicts more real, candid video content over high-quality assets from production shoots. Think: recorded on an iPhone and UGC. She’s also looking out for a rise in content that promotes engagement as engagement rates continue to drop on social media.

Jules, Digital Brand Director + Founder

Our Digital Brand Director, Jules, is predicting big things this year. The first is businesses and brands continuing to leverage UGC and influencer programs (are you seeing a trend yet?) She is also anticipating some shifts in platforms including a new social media app being launched that people will actually want to use (no offense to Threads), Pinterest rolling out new features, and LinkedIn getting more spammy and salesy. Another major prediction from Jules based on data from the last couple of years is that advertising and tracking will become more difficult due to legalities and privacy restrictions.

Lara, Digital Marketing Manager

Lara’s predictions for 2024 are centred around two key areas. The first is how video-predominant platforms will adjust to accommodate new demands from creators. This includes Instagram and TikTok introducing more in-app AI capabilities and making improvements to their in-app editing and templates to compete with apps like CapCut. These changes would keep content creators engaged and more likely to create content natively in the app, rather than using external programs. Lara is also anticipating businesses restrategizing and shifting to rely more on first-party data collection. As third-party data becomes more difficult to collect due to increased concerns around privacy, first-party data will become invaluable.

Madi, Director of Social Media + Founder

Madi doesn’t like to make predictions. She prefers to roll with the punches and adapt based on changes and shifts in the industry. She’s always excited to see what’s next.

Nicole, Digital Marketing Coordinator

Something that’s been true for the last couple of years is that video has an increasingly important role in social media and digital marketing as a whole. Nicole is anticipating that this isn’t going away. With more AI, demands for UGC, and a continuous rise in influencer programs, video will continue to be a primary vehicle for storytelling, creating awareness, and building engagement. This will expand beyond TikTok and Instagram.

Victoria, Digital Marketing Coordinator

Our newest team member, Victoria, is coming up to one year working in social media and she’s seen it all. Her predictions are all about the functionality and user experience of social media platforms. This year, Vic is predicting that the never-ending Meta spam messages will finally stop (we can hope), that X will go back to Twitter, and there will be improvements to in-app video editing on Instagram to make it more user-friendly.
