Our team wears a lot of hats at The Small Social. At work, we’re dedicated digital marketing professionals who are committed to helping our clients succeed. Outside of work, we’re balancing our roles as sisters, moms, daughters, pet moms, wives, friends, and so much more. And while it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and daily grind of fulfilling all of those roles, we also recognize that taking time for self care is incredibly important.

For International Self Care Day, we asked our team what they to show themselves a little love, and what their essentials are for winding down, resetting, and fillling their cups. If you’re looking for some new ideas to bring some calm into your life, keep reading.

Barbie

For Barbie, self care means creating small and intentional moments throughout the day. She starts and ends the day with her skincare routine, making it a non-negotiable self care practice to start the day refreshed, and end it with a reset. Her favourite skincare items include:
SPF, shower oil, hair mask. Journaling in a cute notebook helps her clear her mind, while curling up with a good book gives her the chance to unwind after a busy day. Her current self care read is Girls that Invest by Simran Kaur.

Ashley

Ashley believes that taking care of yourself starts from the inside out. Her self care must-haves focus on keeping herself and her skin hydrated, her air healthy and her body feeling its best. She’s a big fan of the Santevia Glass Mineralized Alkaline Water System, which filters 99% of chlorine, lead and other impurities out of your water. For skincare, she reaches for this Skinfix Ceramide Prime Whipped Cream for a glowy boost to the skin morning and night. And to relax, unwind, and have her hair lookings its absolute best, her top pick is the Amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Hair Mask with Hyaluronic Acid.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn’s idea of a reset is simple, but effective. Getting outside for a walk with her new puppy helps clear her mind, while a face mask gives her an excuse to slow down for a few minutes. Whether she’s catching up on her favourite podcast or enjoying some quiet time, these little rituals help her recharge after a busy, hectic day. Her go-to self care essential? These Grace & Stella under eye patches.

Sarah

After a busy day of capturing content, Sarah’s self care routine is all about feeling refreshed, energized, and confident. She makes it a point of staying hydrating, spending time outdoors, and keeping up with her skincare and haircare routine. Sarah loves the Neutrogena Hydroboost gel cream and this Shea Moisture Hair Mask. Nothing gives her a confidence boost like staying bronzed and tanned with her favourite self tanner.

Jordan

Jordan believes a good self care routine starts with the basics. Taking her dog out for a walk gives her fresh air and movement after working at the computer all day, while prioritizing a good night’s sleep helps her recharge for the next day. She also enjoys reading before bed as a way to unwind without scrolling on her phone. Her self care must-have items? The Neutrogena Hydro Boost for morning and night moisture that can’t be beaten, this Cerave Face Wash, our team’s favourite Grace & Stella Eye Patches, and the OGX Hydrate and Repair Hair Mask for those days that she just needs a little extra luxury in her routine.

Vic

For Vic, consistency is key to self care. She makes time for a daily walk, usually with her sweet dog Eddie, enjoys reading before bed, and she’s made it a habit to leave her phone away from the bed to help improve her sleep. Her favourite self-care items are this lightweight serum by The Ordinary to keep her skin feeling fresh, and a reading light that lets her enjoy a good book without too much bright lighting before bed.

Britt

As a busy sports mom, Britt’s self care routine focuses on slowing down and keeping things simple. Reading gives her a chance to escape reality into a different world, while staying hydrated and maintaining a regular skincare routine help her feel refreshed inside and out. Her routine contains all things Glossmetics for a daily dose of self care that’s easy and accessible. And her emotional support Stanley cup is never far away.

Madi

For Madi, the best self care habits are the most simple, but the ones we forget most often. She makes staying hydrated a daily priority, values getting quality sleep whenever she can, and loves spending time outdoors, whether that’s going for walks or enjoying water activities at the cottage. Her self-care essentials include Medcube toner pads to help her skin feel great after a busy day outdoors, and Alcohol-Free Listerine, because it’s the little things that can make all the difference in how you feel.

Jules

Jules enjoys winding down with a combination of skincare and reading. Her favourite cleanser from Fresh helps her skin feel clean and refreshed after a busy day of content days and sports with her kids. Her Omnilux red light mask has become a staple in her routine for some spa treatment vibes right in the comfort of her home. When she has time to truly slow down and prioritize herself, Jules is reaching for The Life That’s Waiting by Brianna Wiest, for motivational reminders for just about every life situation.

Lara

For Lara, self care is all about enjoying calm, peaceful moments to disconnect from technology and the busy-ness of the day to day hustle. She loves going for walks and listening to music, and sitting down at a local cafe with a good book. She’s currently reaching for her summer read, Beach Read. At the end of the day, eye masks are her favourite way to feel instantly refreshed while she takes some time to journal to clear her mind and reset.

Cat

Cat loves self care that combines movement with relaxation. Pilates and long walks help her stay active while giving her time to clear her mind. She also enjoys taking care of her skin, with the Alumiere tinted sunscreen as an everyday essential for protecting her skin and the Rhode Reset Mask for those moments when she wants to treat herself to a little extra pampering.

This International Self Care Day, we encourage you to take a few moments for yourself, whatever that may look like, and remember you can’t pour from an empty cup. Whether self care is a skincare routine, a walk, journaling, or simply a few minutes to sit and reset, we hope you remember to prioritize yourself regularly. When we take care of ourselves, we show up for the people, projects, and passions that matter most to us.
