Make a Good ✨ First Impression✨ 📱👋

Jul 08, 2022

These days, making a good first impression on social media is just as important as making a good first impression in real life. People form a solid opinion of you within 7 seconds of meeting you, and this can be even shorter online. If a potential client reaches your Instagram page, it won’t take long for them to determine whether they want to hit that blue follow button and get to know you a little more. And nothing will seal your fate quite like your bio.

If you’re using Instagram for business, you need to make sure that your bio tells people exactly who you are and why they should follow your brand. This seems like a really easy task to check off the list, especially with the limited characters at your disposal. But
your bio is your elevator pitch, and you have a total of 180 characters to tell people why you’re better than the last Instagram page they looked at, and convince them to follow your journey.

Here are our tips for writing an eye-catching instagram bio that will leave a positive, lasting impression.

Name

30 Characters

The name of your Instagram page is different from the username or IG handle. The page name gives your profile page its brand name. While it’s a good idea to use this section for your business name, you can optimize it for SEO purposes by using a term someone would search to find your business like your services or industry.

Description

150 Characters

The description is the bulk of your bio. It needs to answer questions like:

  • What do you do?
  • Where are you located?
  • What service or product do you offer?

When answering these questions, it’s important to use buzzwords that connect to your audience.

You can should also:

  • Make it visually appealing by breaking up the information using lines
  • Make it eye-catching by using emojis alongside your text
  • Use words that describe your niche and services
  • Include a branded hashtag for people to use if they want to tag you

The bottom line: does your bio effectively tell people who you are and make people want to follow your brand?

URL

Since Instagram doesn’t allow active hyperlinks embedded in posts the same way Facebook does, having a URL to your website in the bio is crucial for people to learn more about your brand, special offers, and access the information you’re posting about.

You only get one URL, make it count. You can optimize your URL by using a multi-link tool (our favourite is
Linktree) which allows you to link to multiple web pages under one link in your bio.
